(6) EEG Biofeedback

EEG Biofeedback/Neurofeedback is a form of brain exercise. During training, a couple of electrodes are placed on the scalp and one of two are usually put on the earlobes. Then, the computer provides real-time, instantaneous audio and visual feedback about your brainwave activities. The electrodes measure the electrical patterns coming from the brain much like a physician listens to your heart from the surface of your skin. EEG Biofeedback is a promising new therapy in the field of applied psychophysiology. This field studies the relationship between the mind and the body. Specifically, it involves teaching people effective ways to control body functions. For example, therapists use biofeedback to help people learn how to relax. However, EEG Biofeedback is more inclusive, as it involves opening up new avenues for communication between your body and your brain. EEG Biofeedback helps you to learn how to access and maintain different states of physiological arousal. In other words, it is education for your brain.
